Course Overview
This course explores the intersections between the natural environment, the built environment, and the performing arts, showing teachers how these elements – when experienced together – offer unique opportunities to develop creativity, environmental awareness and a stronger sense of cultural identity.
Participants will discover how music can foster sustainability values, deepen environmental awareness, and promote a sense of belonging, especially in small towns, villages, and outdoor learning settings. The course is designed to equip teachers with tools they can use in their classrooms or school communities.

No prior musical or environmental training is required.
Methodology
Based in experiential and interdisciplinary learning, this course helps teachers explore how sound and artistic practices can enrich both natural and built environments. This approach equips educators to design holistic learning experiences that combine curriculum content with real-world environments, beyond the traditional classroom. Participants will engage in:
- Field activities in natural and community spaces
- Exploration of how our surroundings together with artistic expression shape local cultural identity
- Creative music playing using self-built instruments from recycled materials
- Soundscape walks, deep listening, and movement-based activities
- Collaboration and brainstorming linking music, landscape, architecture, and community, including natural and human factors
- Strategies that teachers can adapt to classroom, schoolyard, or rural/outside settings
Weekly Schedule
- Day 1: Welcome session, course introduction, and team building
- Day 2: Escenario Hábitat Natura (Scene, Built, Nature): Understanding the three pillars and exploring their connections
- Day 3: Eco-instruments and creative sound-making with recycled materials
- Day 4: Exploring Andalusian culture (cultural visit and Flamenco concert)
- Day 5: Soundscapes: Listening to and interpreting our environment (natural + built spaces)
- Day 6: Final reflections, course evaluation, and certificate ceremony. Outdoor concert & community gathering in El Molino
Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn to:
- Integrate nature, built environments, and performing arts into their teaching practice
- Apply sustainability values through creative, hands-on activities
- Create eco-instruments using recycled items
- Design innovative interdisciplinary learning experiences adaptable to any educational stage
